Count our days:
In Psalm 90:12, Moses prayed to God, "Teach us how to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." ”
This passage is not only a prayer, but also a profound reflection on the meaning of life. Let's go back to the basics and look at how to "count your days" from the basic math, i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication and division:
1. Addition: Child's calculations
For children, life is calculated by addition. During the annual birthday celebration, they look back on the achievements and experiences they have made in the past year and look forward to the year ahead. This is the first level of life and the easiest way to calculate. Children use addition to record their growth, which makes them feel the richness and anticipation of life. Every new age is a new beginning, symbolizing new opportunities and possibilities.
2. Subtraction: Mature Reflection
As we age, we begin to realize that life is short and limited. Instead of just counting the number of years we have, we begin to subtract the days that have passed, thinking about how much time we have left to do what we are supposed to do. It's a more mature reflection that makes us aware of the preciousness of time and motivates us to make more meaningful choices in our limited days. When faced with life's important decisions, we need to ask ourselves: How much time do I have left to devote to what really matters?
3. Multiplication: Expand the influence
As we matured, we learned to work on multiple projects at the same time to expand the influence of God's kingdom. We can use each day to make a difference in a different field and impact more people. This multiplicative thinking allows us to create greater value in our lives and expand our efforts to a wider scope. Through collaboration and teamwork, we are able to multiply our capabilities and resources to multiply our impact. In this process, we are not pursuing personal fulfillment, but working for the glory of God.
4. Division: Share life
Eventually, we learn to assign our lives to others. This can be done by writing a book, sharing ideas, or dedicating one's own work to others. This division is not only an allocation of one's own time and energy, but also an investment in the lives of others. By sharing, we are able to have a greater impact on the lives of others. When we pass on our wisdom, experience, and love to others, we are building the lives of others.
conclusion
Through these four mathematical operations, we can understand the message of Psalm 90:12 more deeply. From childlike addition, to mature subtraction, to multiplication and division, each stage reflects our understanding and practice at different levels of life. In counting the days, let us keep seeking God's wisdom to guide us toward a more meaningful life. Let's cherish each day, make good use of our time, and dedicate our lives to others to live with wisdom, love, and meaning.
"Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to all the nations."
